Michael Oliver - motor sport writer and historian

Michael Oliver, who lives in Witney, Oxfordshire, England, has been following motor sport since he was a child and reckons he probably learnt to count from the numbers on the sides of racing cars!

In his youth, he attended many major Formula 1, sports car and motorbike races in both the UK and Europe and it is the vivid memories of these events which have fuelled his desire to research, record and write about motor sport history.

He has contributed motoring and motor sport-related features, news and reviews to a wide range of magazines and newspapers during the past ten years.

Although he writes about a broad cross-section of topics, Michael's particular interest lies with the Lotus marque. He has written features about the Lotus 12 Formula 1/2 car, Lotus 49 Formula 1 car, Lotus 56 turbine Indy car, Lotus 56B turbine Formula 1 car and the Lotus 72 Formula 1 car. In addition, he has penned road tests of the Gold Leaf Type 49 Lotus Elise and the Lotus Exige.

His first book, Lotus 49: The Story of a Legend was published in 1999 and was followed in 2003 by Lotus 72: Formula One Icon.

His latest book, a collection of mechanics's anecdotes called Tales from the Toolbox, was published in December 2009. Click on 'Books' to the left for more information.
